Professional Alloy Steel Ball Joint Separator Puller Tool

The W40717 / W40718 Ball Joint Puller (ball joint separator / tie rod end remover) is a professional chassis service tool designed for removing ball joints on steering tie rods, control arms, drag links and brake linkage assemblies.

Product Overview

The W40717 / W40718 Ball Joint Puller (ball joint separator / tie rod end remover) is a professional chassis service tool designed for removing ball joints on steering tie rods, control arms, drag links and brake linkage assemblies.

Every unit is drop-forged from premium alloy steel, then quenched and tempered for outstanding tensile and bending strength — it will not deform or crack under repeated heavy-duty use. The rigid C-frame body combined with a coarse trapezoidal forcing screw delivers smooth, powerful thrust that pops a tight ball stud out of its taper without damaging the dust boot, threads or steering knuckle — eliminating the need for destructive hammer blows.

Available in 17 mm and 20 mm working diameters with 265 mm / 275 mm pulling lengths, covering the vast majority of ball joint applications on cars, SUVs, pickups and light commercial vehicles.

Key Features

  • Premium Alloy Steel Drop-Forged — One-piece forging, no casting porosity, high load capacity and safety margin
  • Two Sizes Available — 17 mm / 20 mm working diameters for different ball stud sizes
  • High-Rigidity C-Frame — Concentrated loading without spreading; holds shape after repeated use
  • Trapezoidal Thread Screw — Efficient, self-locking, smooth and controllable pressure
  • Hammer-Free Removal — Screw pressure replaces hammering, protecting knuckles, threads and boots
  • Deep-Throat Design — Reaches into tight chassis spaces
  • Hex Drive End — Use open-end, ring spanner or socket for maximum torque
  • Anti-Corrosion Finish — Plated / black-oxide treated for oily, humid workshop conditions
  • Individually Boxed — 1 pc per box, 20 pcs per carton, ideal for retail and distribution

FAQ

Q1: What is your MOQ?
A: 1 carton (20 pcs) for stock items; 300 pcs for custom-logo orders.

Q2: What is the difference between 17 mm and 20 mm? Which should I choose?
A: The figure is the working diameter (jaw capacity) — the maximum ball stud / joint body diameter the tool accepts.

  • W40717 (17 mm) — Suits compact and small passenger cars: tie rod ends and stabilizer links
  • W40718 (20 mm) — Suits mid/large sedans, SUVs and pickups: control arm ball joints and larger studs

Measure the joint diameter before ordering, or send us your target vehicle models and we will help confirm. Stocking both sizes covers a much wider vehicle range.

Q3: Is the material really alloy steel? Can it be verified?
A: Yes — premium alloy structural steel, drop-forged, quenched and tempered. Material certificates or third-party (SGS / BV) testing can be arranged on request.

Q4: What does 265 mm / 275 mm pulling length mean?
A: It is the overall length specification of the tool, reflecting frame depth and screw travel — enough reach to access ball studs in confined chassis areas.

Q5: Can I hammer the screw to speed up removal?
A: Not recommended. The tool works by screw pressure; hammering damages the threads and tip and can cause sudden failure. If the joint is seized, apply penetrating oil and wait, or tap the side of the steering knuckle (never the tool) to help break the taper.

Q6: Will it damage the ball joint dust boot?
A: This is a separator-type tool intended for removing joints that are being replaced; the boot may be deformed during removal. If you need to remove and reuse the original joint, choose a ball joint separator with protective pads (also available in our range).

Q7: Where can it be used?
A: Tie rod ends, upper/lower control arm ball joints, stabilizer links, brake linkage joints and various steering linkage ball joints — on passenger cars, SUVs, pickups and light commercial vehicles.

Q8: Can you add our brand logo?
A: Yes. Laser engraving, steel stamping, silk-screen printing and custom paint colors are available, along with blister hang cards, color boxes, manuals and barcodes for retail display.

Q9: What is your lead time?
A: 7-15 days for stock orders; approximately 30-45 days for OEM orders depending on quantity and packaging.

Q10: What payment terms do you accept?
A: T/T (30% deposit + 70% balance), L/C at sight, Trade Assurance, Western Union, and PayPal for small sample orders.

Q11: Can you send a sample first?
A: Yes. Sample charges are refundable against a bulk order; freight is at the buyer’s cost.

Q12: How is it packed? Can packaging be changed?
A: Standard packing is 1 pc per box, 20 pcs per export carton. Blister hang cards, color boxes or blow-molded cases are available on request.

Q13: How should it be maintained?
A: Clean off grease and metal debris after use, lubricate the screw threads and tip, and store in a dry place. Inspect before every use — check for a bent screw, stripped threads, a spread C-frame or any cracks, and stop using immediately if any defect is found.
